                          I could not help feeling that they were evil things - mountains of madness whose farther slopes looked out over some accursed ultimate abyss.

At the Mountains of Madness, written in February/March 1931 and rejected that year by Weird Tales editor Farnsworth Wright on the grounds of its length. It was originally serialized in the February, March and April 1936 issues of Astounding Stories.

The story has inadvertently popularized the concept of ancient astronauts, as well as Antarctica's place in the "ancient astronaut mythology.

How can I see all the quotes by a particular Author?

Simply click on the name of the Author underneath a quote to see a list of all the quotes by that Author.

Another way to see all the quotes by a particular Author is to click on the alphabet letter in the header that corresponds to the first letter of the Author's last name. Then select the Author you want from the list to see a list of all the quotes by that Author.

How can I see all the quotes on a particular Topic?

Simply click on the Topic menu item and you will see an alphabetical list of all our Topics. Click the topic you are interested in to see a list of all the quotes on that Topic.
