Began his career as a magician known as The Amazing Randi. Challenger of paranormal claims and pseudoscience. Randi posed as a psychic to establish that they were simply doing tricks. One of his earliest reported experiences is that of seeing an evangelist using the "one-ahead" routine to convince churchgoers of his divine powers, when a performer pretends to read messages sealed inside envelopes by clairvoyance. The 'one-ahead' is an entertaining parlor trick by magicians and mentalists.
